Charities clawing back over-payment

Trafford charities could be in for a windfall this Christmas for being overcharged on energy bills.

The SAA is one such charity that has managed to save £1,200 a year.  Make it Cheaper, whose aim is to get better deals on utility bills for businesses, want to make all North West charities aware that they are subject to a reduced 5% VAT rate.

General Manager, Bob Gregson said when he realised the Society could claim this money in 2010 they were on the brink of closure.  Thankfully, with help from a Messenger backed campaign, the Sanctuary was saved as residents donated more than £50,000 in just 3 months.

With the money donated, and making such a saving every year on their energy bills, the Sanctuary has been improved considerably with a heated rabbit facility being built and stables converted into state-of-the-art dog kennels.

"Last year we had water freezing where the rabbits were", Bob said, "but now we have heating and insulation there I think we have the best rabbit facilities in the North West".

The money is also going towards veterinary bills, vaccines and microchips for the Sancuary that has taken in 257 cats this year alone.  They have also devised other revenue streams such as taking in pets for boarding whilst their owners are on holiday.

Make It Cheaper have full details of how charities can claim the money back and make sure correct payments are made in future.
